Jones's 2004 Season |
Paul's
first race of the season was held at Blackwood and unfortunately didn't go according to plan! Despite having good starts in all 3 blocks Paul had a clutch problem in the first race and brought down by other riders in the secondand third effectively leaving him bringing up the rear.
But with grit and determination he battled his way through the field to finish 8th, 16th, and 12th, time being his own enemy.
This meant an overall position of 13th, (10th within the Club Championship 1st. round).
April 4th. saw the first round of the Welsh Championship in Heolgerrig.
Unfortunately, due to awfull weather and ground conditions the event was shortened to just one race.
Paul won this in style, pipping the long term leader at the post and therefore leading as he goes into round 2 on May 2nd.
The latest news on Paul Jones
19/09/2004
As the motorcross season draws near to it's end:-
A season which has seen Paul Jones placed in the top 4 in every race, I regret to write that Paul's personal series had come to a premature end.
A bad accident in the Kidwelly meeting caused him and his bike to fly into the air at speed (in a style that any freestyler would be proud of!!) resulting in a very badly broken wrist and a damaged kidney.
A major blow to any rider but made worse by the fact that the last round of the Welsh Championship, in which Paul is lying second, just 9 points behind the leader, was run the following weekend.
Fortunately he has accumilated enough points, helped by 2 clear wins in rounds 1 and 5 to keep him in 3rd. place averall; although this has to be confirmed.
In the seasons club championship, Paul has recieved a 4th and two 2nd second place tophies in the East Wales Club Mini-Series and a 2nd place trophy in the West Wales club.
Hopefullyan end of season club Championship trophy, with the East Wales club, is still to come his way.
On the whole, not a bad year I'd say.
I hope that anyone who reads this will join me in wishing Paul a full and speedy recovery which will see him return to MotoX in 2005.
