DAVID BARFOOT 2004

My name is David Barfoot, I am 17 years old and I live in Gelli in the Rhondda. I am currently working in my father's garage as an apprentice motor mechanic. My ambition in life is to be a professional road racer. My favourite road racers are the late Steve Hislop and current World Superbike rider Chris Walker. I started road racing in the year 2002 on an Aprilla 125 and although the bike was underpowered in contrast with the grand prix machines I finished my first season in 4th place. In 2003 riding a 1992 Honda RS 125 machine I finished the season as NG Junior Champion. In 2004 riding a 1997 Honda RS 125 machine I finished the season as Welsh 125 Champion. I raced on a standard Honda RS 125 and always come in the top four and also won races in the wet. So we need to spend money on the engine to be competitive, some people spend more than £6000.00 on their engines.

Here's a list of tracks we have raced this year, Pemprey 4 times. Donington Park, Darley Moor, Thruxton, Keevil, Silverstone twice, Anglesey twice and Tonfanau four times. The only way I can improve is to spend as much time on track as possible. The very nature of road racing is expensive, with entry fees, fuel, tyres, engine rebuilds and maintenance in general. So I am writing to companies with a view for sponsorship. So why should you part with your hard earned cash? With my determination and dedication and your help I could go all the way. My dad who owns a garage, for next year will be buying me a new machine and we intend to campaign as many club championships as possible. Below is a picture of my current machine. Imagine your company's name on my bike with the exposure it could give your company. This year alone in one championship we visited six tracks nation wide.

Next season we would like to campaign two championships with 'New Era' and 'MRO' financing permitting. A typical one-day event with New Era Entry Fee, £85.00 Entry Fee, additional races £32.00 Fuel traveling to meetings £80.00 Fuel for machine (Avgas) - £1 / litre, estimated 8 litres £ 8.00 Biggest cost by far are tyres £115.00 each £230.00 min. If it rains you need wet tyres at a cost of £100.00 each £200.00 min. The tyres are so sticky that they don't last long (approx. 100 miles) Together with frequent engine re-builds - piston rings every 150 miles, pistons every 300 miles and crankshafts every 1000 miles. You can see how expensive it is, all professional road racers have sponsorship and it would be impossible to race without it. Even at club level you need money. So that's where you come in, for your money you see your company's Name / logo in a programme. Potential exposure of several thousand people nation wide every weekend.

As an added bonus if your company has vehicles we could agree on a very attractive maintenance programme which would be beneficial to you and I. my objectives for next season are to score as many points in as many championships as possible. If you like what you have seen and would like to help and be part of our team 'MB Motors racing' please contact myself or my Father on; (01443) 423019 - Night, or MB Motors - (01443) 439607. Or arrange a meeting with my Father and myself or if you would like to see me ride at a local track, please don't hesitate to call.
